The Shoes of S10 CTR

Ah, the bigboys of Couture. Where do I even start? Dior I suppose! So I have to say, Galliano deliviered (as he normally slash almost always does slash ALWAYS does) I absolutely love the shoes in this line. Well, okay, that's somewhat of a lie. The black counterpart of the first? I didn't like as much. The white is just so much cleaner and the cut (what with it's curving contour and well just chic buttons and buckles) it reminds me of a very modern Victorian take. And ah, the purple. Now take a moment and just look at that heel! Such a wonderful, delicate, shape - it very much so reinforces the whole ridingcrop (or cane) theme going on. They're lovely, really, with all the folds the fabric creates lending to movement - beautiful and aesthetically appealing. In one word, WANT!

When it comes to Chanel, I have mixed feelings. I love the details, I do - I think they're creative and fun but...it's too much like Rococo for my liking. Granted, Rococo in fashion I'm usually okay with (for whatever reason) but I, personally, absolutely despise that particular art period. As someone who's taking Art History for a second year, my tastes have become very very refined and the frivolity of Rococo and its infidelity downright bothers me. But I suppose that's aside the point. I'm still on the fence about these, for the first shoe i love the cut and the hourglass shape created but the second? The heel is like a misshapen column of some sort. It's interesting, yes, but I'm still split on if I like it or not. It seems to unbalance the rest of the shoe but perhaps that's the point. All that being said, I do love the rather futuristic (even though Lagerfeld probably doesn't want to see or even hear that adjective with this line) silver and I really do appreciate the details of the pearls and buckles. As for those tights? Beautiful.

And finally there's Gaultier. I have always had respect for him even if I'm split with this current collection. I mean how can you not respect the man? He's the March Hare or Mad Hatter of fashion really, always doing outrageous things and yet...always having such beautiful, meticulous, pure craftsmanswork present in his collections. I guess the old cliché is fully applicable here for there's truly a visible "method to the madness." I think that's what I love most about these shoes, you can truly see the delicate handiwork with the weaving of material and the details of the work which is easily seen in those wonderful boots. I would die happy if I owned those heels.

Personally, I do not like these Armany shoes. The pearl veil is a nice touch, I appreciate it, but I just don't know. It seems almost tacky to me. The moon shape of the next shoe is nice, it's consistent with the rest of the collection, but again I just don't like it all that much. The black is probably my least favorite, I've seen that style almost everywhere it seems - the black with what seems to be studs (or some other material) dotting the outside. It's a pretty solid style, yes, but it's exhausted.

As for the Valentino heels I am in love. They're beautiful, the drapery and movement is fantastic. They're just classy and beautiful and I love how these heels were used in a variety of ways; either standing alone because of a dress or with pants layered over them. Very classy. The second heel prominent in the collection I don't really like, I think it's almost too 80's in a way. However, that being said, it's an interesting design and cut and I appreciate how the colors matched the various pieces.

With Elie Saab, I did not like the shoes. I just didn't like them, I don't think they make the foot loon slender or elongate the leg or anything, the cut is just too bulky and the toe is unappealing. To me, anyway. I mean the detail of the translucent fabric is nice, yes, but I still don't think that alone can save it. Finally, the Givenchy heels made some of my favorites. I just love that cut, it's just fun! The front kind of reminds me of armor plates that would be put on a horse or something in some sort of movie or video game, I wish I could think of a more specific example but c'est la vie. Still though, I loved seeing these - I thought they were refreshing and like I said before, fun.

Who didn't I include and why?
While I thought Anne Valérie Hash's open-toed flats were precious (so cute!) and very sleek I felt as if they were too simplistic to include. Don't get me wrong, I loved them and if I had a chance I would personally and most defintiely wear them - like I said, I just thought them too simplistic. Which is fine, they worked well with the entirety of the collection, I know I'll be watching Miss Hash to see what else she comes up with. As for Thimister? Well, it was supposed to be for Fall so I thought it silly to include anything about it with the rest. Also, I'd rather do a full review on that collection than just focusing on one aspect such as shoes since I don't think writing about the footwear would do it much justice. The same really goes for Alexis Mabille. I loved the mismatching colors and tones but again I didn't want to just focus on the footwear - to me the collection and pieces really need to be looked at as a whole for both of these designers lines.
